Edition: 34/235 | Signed in pencil | c. 1950s

Well this bad boy is at the Museum of Modern Art!  Need i say more. Also, there edition is number 35!  Ours was printed right before it.

This original wood engraving by renowned American artist Leonard Baskin (1922–2000), titled Portrait of a Man, is number 34 of a limited edition of 235 and signed in pencil by the artist.

Baskin constructs the human face through a surreal collage of natural forms—a bird’s nest becomes an eye, and tangled branches suggest a crown of hair—blurring the line between anatomy and nature. This richly symbolic composition exemplifies his psychologically intense, expressionist style.

A pivotal figure in the revival of wood engraving and fine press printing, Baskin founded the Gehenna Press and is celebrated for his emotionally resonant portraits. His work is held in major institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, and the Tate Modern.

This vintage Leonard Baskin print is professionally matted and custom framed in a gold-toned wood frame. It is in very good vintage condition, with minor waviness to the paper, typical of older works on paper.

Similar signed Baskin engravings typically range  up to $1,100.
