Antique Spode Stone China Platter – Hand-Painted Famille Rose Floral, c. 1820 – 19" x 14.5"
A striking and generously sized antique serving platter by Spode, dating to the early 19th century. This octagonal Stone China piece features a vivid hand-painted chinoiserie garden scene in the famille rose palette, framed by a scrolling floral border with delicate gilded accents.

Crafted around 1820–1830, the platter is marked on the reverse with both a printed "Spode Stone-China" stamp and an impressed workman’s or pattern code—hallmarks of Spode’s early stone china production. A beautiful blend of form and function, it’s a standout piece for display, entertaining, or collecting.

Dimensions:

  • Width: 19 inches

  • Height: 14.5 inches

Condition:
Good antique condition with vibrant color and overall strong presentation with areas where the image has faded some.  One minor topical glaze crack is visible on the lower interior rim (see final photo). This superficial flaw is not structural—it does not go through the piece. Light surface wear typical of age. No chips or repairs.

About Spode:
Founded in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England in the 1770s, Spode is one of the most iconic names in British ceramics. The company is renowned for its innovation in pottery, including the development of fine bone china and durable Stone China—the latter introduced around 1813. Spode's hand-painted and transferware patterns reflect a blend of classic English craftsmanship and global influence, particularly from Chinese export porcelain. Today, antique Spode pieces are prized by collectors and admired for their timeless beauty and historical significance.
